As employment patterns shift, the prosperity of our suburban towns increasingly depends upon the growing number of good jobs located within the City of New Haven. Nearly half of the jobs above a living wage ($40,000 per year) in the region are located in the city.

Job access nonetheless remains a top concern within many city neighborhoods, where the underemployment rate, which includes part-time workers who would prefer to work full time, reaches above 20%.

New Haven residents are far more likely to have low-wage jobs outside the city than within it, highlighting the issues of transportation and housing access.
