The Fierce Urgency of Now
August is Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) and The Community Foundation is recognizing and celebrating local giving by philanthropists and community leaders in our region. Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) is an annual global celebration of African-descent giving that aims to strengthen African-American and African-descent giving in all its forms.
The theme for 2022 is “Fierce Urgency of Now - from Dream to Action."

In 2017, Jolyn Walker decided to take her annual giving activity a step further by establishing the Washington Walker Family Fund to support local organizations that she and her late husband, Judge, cared about. Her donor advised fund is named, in part, for her father, who taught his children about being community-minded.

Robert Saulsbury transferred his father's private foundation to The Community Foundation in 2001. The reason? To ensure the continued growth of the scholarship bearing his father's name. Today, the Curtis M. Saulsbury Scholarship Fund provides young people the opportunity to obtain an education in music.
