In November 2014, the community lost a dearly-loved husband, father and brother. At 81, Joel Cogen died after having lived a full life as a humanitarian, entrepreneur and lover of the arts. After graduating from the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations and Yale Law School, Joel founded and served as the executive director and general counsel of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities for four decades. His passion for the arts was exhibited in his regular attendance at the theater, museums and concerts. He also performed as an accomplished flutist with the Wayland Woodwind Quintet for more than 20 years at such local venues as the Yale Center for British Art. After Joel's death, a fund was established at The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven in his name to commemorate his legacy.
