Partnerships: Making Beautiful Music

Enhancing lives and influencing audiences is not an easy feat, and it is not limited to a single year or an individual program.

For the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO), the vision to increase quantity and quality of programming for local residents was made a reality, with the help of a multi-year, general operating support grant from The Community Foundation.

New Haven Symphony Orchestra is forming partnerships in our region and beyond, to enhance the audience experience and impact the lives of others.

With Foundation funds, NHSO was able to branch out and find ways to forge new partnerships, as in a new concert series with the Greater Middletown Chorale, as well as with diverse organizations serving Greater New Haven, like the Community Soup Kitchen at Christ Church and New Haven Reads. These non-traditional partnerships gave rise even more with foundations and funders looking to lend their support for a greater community impact.

"The impact and value of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra are greatly increased through gifts of general operating support," says Executive Director Elaine C. Carroll. "We are bringing more music to more people in more cities in Connecticut, thanks to the vision and generosity of donors who remember our work with gifts to The Community Foundation."

A focus on young musicians has led to a robust plan for educational artist residencies with the likes of jazz composer Chris Brubeck in the coming months and following year. The 82nd Annual Young People's Concert in 2015 will feature a new premiere by Brubeck and high school musicians, demonstrating the power of partnerships to more than 10,000 students across Connecticut.
