Nonprofit organizations led by and serving the Latine community in Greater New Haven raised $101,661K during The Great Give 2023. The giving was amplified by a $10K matching pool provided by the Progreso Latino Fund (PLF).

The Great Give® is Greater New Haven’s annual 36-hour online giving event created in 2010 by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven to increase philanthropy in Greater New Haven. The 2023 event raised a total of $3,548,256 for 520 nonprofit organizations serving Greater New Haven. Read press release here.

The Progreso Latino Fund Advisory Committee allocated $10,000 to spread among eleven local nonprofit organizations that serve the Latine community, have Latines in executive leadership positions and have annual budgets of less than $500,000. Organizations received a share of the pool based on their number of unique donors.

“We are so excited by the generosity on display during The Great Give. All of these organizations do important and inspiring work for our community, and we are excited by the response from donors,” said PLF Advisory Committee Co-chair Yari Ijeh. "We created our matching pool to create an incentive that increases the impact of every donation, especially for smaller organizations that might not have the same resources as larger organizations.”

City Angels Baseball Academy, a new participant in The Great Give, far exceeded its expectations. It came into the giving event with a goal of raising $3,000. By the end, the organization had raised $8779 (including the PLF match) from 80 donors.

"We reached our goal, and then some. Seeing our community rally togeher to raise funds for our organization was so amazing!" the organization posted on its Facebook Page.

ARTE Inc., a New Haven-based youth enrichment and education program was another small organizations benefiting from the match, receiving $1,464 from the PLF pool and raising a total of $13,983 from 160 individual donors. The funding will help ARTE further its mission of promoting Latino art, culture and education through youth development programming.

Elm City Internationals, a college-preparatory program that combines academic support and soccer, raised a total of $42,448 from 449 individual donations, making it the top PLF match recipient.

Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW) also had successful event, with promotional support from Los Mariachis Wallingford. The restaurant hosted SCOW’s Great Give Happy Hour Fiesta and “Celebrity Bartenders” and donated a bottle of tequila for a raffle. SCOW received 111 donations and raised a total of $11,987.

The donations will continue to allow SCOW to offer programs like Bebes Activos! a bilingual playgroup for kids ages 0-5 years old.

"We work on getting them engaged and ready for preschool! Your donations will go towards programs like ours to keep offering them for free!" SCOW posted on its Facebook Page.
