Joseph DelMonico ran his father's millinery shop in New Haven for more than seven decades. |
New Haven, Connecticut has proudly served as the home of DelMonico Hatter since 1908. The iconic institution is a family-owned affair, founded by Ernest DelMonico and operated by his son Joseph for more than seventy years, until his death in 2001 at the age of ninety.
Today, the store is operated by Ernest and Ben, third- and fourth-generation DelMonicos. It celebrates a dedicated clientele of local, national and international hat enthusiasts who appreciate the ability to select from a large and specialized inventory.
New Haven's DelMonico Hatter is one of America's premier sellers of fedoras and men's caps.
In 2017, a DelMonico family fund was created at The Community Foundation. It bears the names of the millinery's grandson and wife, who chose to establish an unrestricted fund, ensuring that resources will be available to respond to the most pressing needs and opportunities of our community, in perpetuity.
