Connecticut Veterans’ Stories Remembered
Thanks to a Year-Round Small grant from The Community Foundation, the West Haven Veterans Museum and Learning Center is up to industry standards for security.
A Year-round Small grant from The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven enabled the West Haven Veterans Museum and Learning Center to improve it's security.
The 9,000-sq.-ft. museum is dedicated to educating the local community about the history of Connecticut's military. When you visit, you will find an extensive collection of military memorabilia and artifacts dating back to the Revolutionary War. Local history buffs will delight in finding a room dedicated to the 102nd Infantry Regiment and the New Haven Grays. Known as one of Connecticut's oldest military companies, the Grays were formed in 1816 and were once commanded by General Samuel Merwin who went on to found Grace Hospital, today's Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Some items you will see:
- a full size replica bunker from the Korean War
- Civil War artifacts, including an authentic uniform borrowed for use in the film The Patriot
- a vast collection of communication equipment
- artifacts from Vietnam, Desert Storm and the War on Terror
