CHEFA Announces 2014 Grant Awards to Greater New Haven Organizations
The Community Foundation hosted the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority's 2014 Nonprofit Grant Awards to Greater New Haven organizations fulfilling basic human needs services in our community.
The Community Foundation happily hosted the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) this week as it awarded grants to seven Greater New Haven nonprofits for projects serving the basic human needs of our community.
These grants, totaling more than $278,000, were only a part of the total grants awarded by CHEFA this year.
"We awarded more than $2.5 million in grants," said CHEFA's Managing Director Jeanette Weldon. "That's more than double the original budget of $1 million for 2014."
Grants were made to 56 Connecticut nonprofits overall, to programs focusing on food insecurity, shelter services and homeless prevention, and health programs, including behavioral and mental health. Organizations awarded grants at the New Haven event included: 'r Kids, BHcare, Community Soup Kitchen, Connecticut Food Bank, Fellowship Place, Jewish Family Service of New Haven and Liberty Community Services.
"We are happy to support others making a difference in our community," said Sarah Fabish, Director of Grants & Scholarships at The Community Foundation, as she welcomed members of CHEFA and the nonprofits receiving grant awards, as well as Terry Edelstein, Nonprofit Liaison to Governor Dannel Malloy, to the event. All the grant recipients at this week's event have also received funding from The Community Foundation; more information about the work of each nonprofit is available on giveGreater.org®.
CHEFA is a quasi-public agency that issues tax-exempt bonds for capital projects at healthcare and educational institutions across the state. Its Nonprofit Grant Program is funded through surplus funds and reserves. For more information about CHEFA's grants and economic impact, visit www.CHEFA.com.
