Branford Arts and Cultural Alliance Brings Public Art to Town Green
Arts organization beautifies public space.
Two sculptures from a local artist are on display for the public’s enjoyment through next spring, thanks to the efforts of the Branford Arts and Cultural Alliance (BACA).
The pieces are the work of sculptor Susan Faricelli, a Branford resident and nationally recognized artist. They are installed on the grounds of the historic Academy building; one sculpture is visible from Montowese Street and the other is visible from S. Main Street and Taintor Drive. The sculptures will be on display until May 2021.
BACA began the project after generating local interest in public art with its installation of outdoor sculptures in the open space at the Blackstone Library. Members of BACA worked with the town and Faricelli to secure the needed permissions to put art on the town green.
A grant from The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s Small Grants Program funded the transportation and installation of the sculptures. The grant also helped BACA establish the protocol to continue to place more sculptures on the Town Green or in other public places in Branford.
BACA has a mission of bringing art to the public and strong commitment to supporting local artists.
"It's all about putting art in public spaces, using local talent," Tony Terry, a BACA member, said in a recent article about the project.
