In the 2015 grant cycle, the Fund supported a pilot program organized by Girls Scouts of CT and the Boys & Girls Club of New Haven. The goal was to create a sustainable, staff-led troop model for girls who would otherwise face economic, transportation or other barriers to participating in a Girl Scout Troop.
"We love this partnership with the Boys & Girls Club," says Mary Barneby, CEO of Girl Scouts of Connecticut. The Boys & Girls Club contributed a staff member, as a co-leader, to work with the troop. "We are able to bring Girl Scouting to a new audience of girls and they are just thriving. I am amazed and inspired by what they have accomplished this year."
A troop of 2nd and 3rd grade girls have progressed on their Brownie Quest Journey, earning badges and learning about teamwork, friendship, communicating effectively and how to develop a plan and reach goals.
"This is a great group of girls and we keep growing," says Sujey Alecia, Community Program Manager. "It's a great thing when you can plant a seed and watch it grow in front of your eyes!"
