Dr. Byron Kennedy directed New Haven's community health initiatives through programmatic and collaborative efforts across multiple areas (e.g., communicable disease, maternal child health, environmental health, and chronic disease). Previously, Dr. Kennedy served as the Commissioner of Public Health for Monroe County in Rochester N.Y. Prior to this assignment; Dr. Kennedy provided health policy expertise to The California State Legislature, where he also served as the lead staffer for a statewide Healthy Communities Initiative focused on improving the health status of medically underserved populations by developing prevention strategies with limited resources. Dr. Kennedy has published papers in the areas of communicable disease outbreaks, chronic disease treatment, tobacco control, repetitive use-injury, and health disparities. This is why he is one of NHHS #blackchampions4health.
