Accessible Transportation
"Through the Mary Wade weekend and medical transportation programs, seniors in New Haven and surrounding communities are able to arrange their own rides to church, the salon, family gatherings, grocery store, community functions, medical appointments, and/or other destinations. Mary Wade transportation promotes independence among seniors while providing quality, personalized transportation."
Research clearly indicates that older adults who have strong and positive social connections are healthier—physically, emotionally, and cognitively. Well-connected, healthy elders can continue to contribute through work, volunteerism, and other activities while promoting their quality of life. Promoting older adults' participation also encourages the stability and economic viability of our families, neighborhoods and communities. Older adults are often key community problem solvers and have the time to bring a lifetime of experience, wisdom and skills to volunteer roles in municipal government, social service and cultural organizations.
